BabyLegs.com: Leg Warmers only $2.50-$3 a pair!!! (ends today)

Sorry to get this deal to you late, but I saw it Saturday night and I rarely post on Sunday since that's our day to worship as a family at church, and spend the day with friends and family. Anyway, right now you can get Baby Leg Warmers for $2.50-$3 a pair at BabyLegs.com (normally $10-$12 each) with the following deal: Take 75% off your order of $75 or more with promo code "FB75OFF75"Girls' tights and all socks can also be part of the deal (excludes all Winter Holiday Collection items). Offer ends TODAY, 10/3.

Shipping on orders over $30 (after discount) is FREE, shipping for orders under $30 is a flat rate of $3.95. So you can either get 7 pairs for $21 + $3.95 shipping ($25), or you can spend $5 more dollars and get 3 more pair... They have infant leg warmers for $10 and baby/toddler for $12. I ordered some this morning for our soon-to-be-arriving little girl in both infant and toddler, then grabbed a few extra pair to give as gifts this winter. My total for 11 pair was $31, which comes out to $2.80 each pair. Nice!

Thanks, Hip2Save!

DIY: Biblical Creation Unit for Toddlers

Want ideas for teaching your toddler or child about the 7 Days of Creation? Check out the "Creation Unit" put together by When You Rise.

When You Rise is a new blog started recently by two moms with small children. On their blog, they will be sharing ideas for teaching your toddlers & children basic biblical concepts and stories in practical, hands-on ways. Most of their ideas use everyday household items! Their honesty in their journey as mothers and women of God has already been refreshing and encouraging me. As my own son is getting old enough to start doing some of these little lessons (like the Creation Unit), When You Rise is definitely a blog I will be following regularly for ideas! Check out the ideas and activities here.

McDonalds: $.50 Ice Cream Cones

Right now you can get $.50 ice cream cones at McDonalds. This is a limited time offer, but right now I can't find anywhere that let's me know when it will plan on ending, so definitely check first! We had a fun "family night" this week, and it only cost $1.50 for all three of us to get a yummy treat! Of course, our toddler didn't eat the whole thing himself. Daddy helped!

Crayola 50ct. Markers: $3.33 at Toys 'R Us (through Saturday)

I posted earlier this week about the Crayola sale at Toys 'R Us this week, and wanted to give you the heads up on one more good deal there... The Crayola Washable 50ct. marker sets are priced at $9.99 (not sure if prices vary from store to store or not). So when paired with the Buy 1 Get 2 Free sale going on this week, you can get three packs of 50ct Crayola markers for $10, or $3.33 each. This sale ends Saturday, August 27th.

I seriously never used to shop at Toys 'R Us before, but they have had some good sales recently as I stock up for Christmas gifts! My sister-in-law has five daughters, and is expecting her first son at the beginning of December. So I have decided to give each of my nieces tubs filled with craft supplies for Christmas so help keep their little hands busy. Basic things like markers, glue sticks, tape, doodle paper, cards to decorate... And right now is the time to shop for those type of supplies!

Toys 'R Us & Babies 'R Us: ALL Clearance Clothing $5 or Less!!!

I was actually at Babies 'R Us last weekend, then stopped in at Toys 'R Us for Crayola markers this week, and both times found some great items on the clearance racks. Right now, ALL Clearance clothes & shoes are $5 or less. Even if the clearance tag says more, it rings up for $5. I got two pairs of shoes for my 19m old boy in the next size up (sandals & loafers), two pairs of Carters pajamas sets (one has glow-in-the-dark dinosaurs... who would have thought?), and a scuba swim shirt for next summer (the kind with the SPF45 in it?).

I also saw entire outfits for $5: polo, undershirt, and khaki's, or a button down, t-shirt, and shorts, etc... Those are not only a great price on an entire outfit, but would also make a good gift! The girls clothing was similar, but of course for girls... :-) I just don't have my daughter in my arms quite yet, so I was looking only at little boy things. There were literally racks and racks of clearance clothes, as well as several large displays of shoes for each gender.

Have fun shopping! These kind of clearance sales definitely help for specific items, and can be great to set aside for the next size up. But as always, no matter what the price, if you don't need it, don't buy it, because then you really are spending money, not saving it! :-)

Toys R' Us: B1G2 Free ALL Crayola Markers & Crayons (through Aug. 27)

If you have kiddos around the house who love to color, draw, and create works of art, this would be a great sale to stock up on markers & crayons! Through Saturday, August 27th, buy 1 Crayola or Marker item and get 2 FREE (of equal or lesser value). I went this morning and bought three packs of those cute Crayola "Pipsqueak" Markers to put back as Christmas presents. They were $4.99, so it came out to $1.66 per pack of Pipsqueaks. Target has the same pack for $3.79. So this is a really good sale. And it was tough choosing between the fat ones, skinny ones, and the ones with fancy tips that do different designs!

I didn't know until this summer how Toys 'R Us actually runs some pretty good weekly sales! I always thought of them as high-priced and I never really even shopped there.

A Work-In-Progress: "Baby Sister's Room"

Over the weekend I got to spend concentrated time on sewing for "Sweet Pea's Room". Our house has been in many stages of transition over the last few months as we prepare for the birth of our daughter in November. Our little man, Levi (19m) has moved into his new "big boy" room...
He is having a lot of fun driving his cars, sitting on the couch reading books with mommy, and dancing to children's Bible songs, Rascal Flatts, or Frank Sinatra (yep, we listen to a variety!). His room is still in progress. I need to finish the curtains (to replace the blankets) and my hubby is making shelves for above each window. Levi also likes to check on the progress in Baby Sister's new room (his old room)...
This nursery just fits our glider (a gift from when our son was born), along with the crib & beautiful dresser/changing table we bought off Craigslist. My husband painted over the previously brown walls (from the cowboy themed nursery) with a calming lavender. I have gotten to sew a white ruffled crib skirt, and a really fun crib bumper (my husband helped me pick out the fabric!) Other additions have been a few teddy bears from Levi's collection of stuffed animals, a soft purple blanket on clearance at a baby store, and a girly rug from Target.
I'm still in process with the baby quilt, and will also be making the curtains when my talented mom comes up to visit in a few weeks (she has WAY more experience with curtains!). So in about 12 more weeks, there will be a little girl sleeping in this little crib garden! Her name is still being decided, but in the meantime I just call her our lil' Sweet Pea. :-)

Toys R' Us: Baby Einstein DVD Sets $9.99 (in store 8/14-8/20)

This week at Toys 'R Us (and Babies 'R Us), Baby Einstein DVD sets are $9.99. These sets include the DVD, book (or cards), and a music cd. My son loved the Baby Einstein DVD's because they were soothing classical music, pictures & video of nature, and basic toys being played with. I don't recommend a lot of TV time, but it's nice having one or two short videos for those stressful moments when nothing can get done otherwise! The knock-off brand "Baby Genius" just isn't the same at all.

Busy Bag #3: Colors & Shapes Magnets

Here is another simple Busy Bag you can put together to have on hand for busy little fingers and eyes. I just called it "Colors & Shapes Magnets". This is a spin-off of the family photo magnets I found here (and I plan on making next time I get around to having pictures developed, because both my family and my husband's live long distance).

Supplies:
- Several colors of Crafting Foam Paper (Around $2 for 15 sheets or so I think? I also recently saw foam shapes/colors in the Target $1 that look like they would work great!)
- One-sided magnet tape* ($2.50 or so at Hobby Lobby. Remember Hobby Lobby has weekly printable coupons, often 40% off one item)
- Scissors
- Permanent Marker
Total Cost: Minimal, considering how many you can make from just $5 in supplies!

Directions:
- Using scissors, cut out various shapes (I cut out two of every shape/color so we could possibly play matching down the road)
- Cut 1 inch pieces of magnet tape and stick to the back of the shape*
- Write "(Color)" or "(Shape)" on the front (or both)
- Put all the pieces in a quart size ziplock bag!

Have fun! This can be a travel activity if you bring a small metal cookie sheet to use as the board. Fridges & dishwashers work great in the house!

Other Busy Bag Ideas:

*My 18m son already figured out how to pull the magnets off and tried eating them... so keep an eye on your child when playing with these (as with anything else). I'm going to try hot glue or super glue to see if either of those work better than just the standard adhesive on the back of the magnet. As a child gets older, this shouldn't be as much of an issue.

Busy Bag #2: Pipe Cleaners in a Bottle

Here is Busy Bag #2: Pipe Cleaners in a Bottle. This idea I got from the blogger at "Engaging Toddler Activities". To see the complete tutorial, head over here

Supplies:
- Pipe Cleaners
- Plastic container with lid
Total Cost: Depends on what supplies you already have* (Mid-range pipe cleaners were $.79 a pack at Hobby Lobby, but were 50% off, so only $.40. I used a food storage container I already had)

Modifications I made for my son...
- Used a shorter container. I originally made it with a "Puffs" snack container (like the one in the tutorial). Levi wasn't getting the hang of stuffing the pipe cleaners all the way down, so they were bending and he was getting frustrated... definitely not my intention! The shorter container also doesn't flip over as much.
- Bent & twisted pipe cleaners to make them thicker. To help with not bending as easily, I folded the pipe cleaners in half and twisted them. You could do this for the tall container by twisting two pipe cleaners together. Whichever you choose, don't forget to bend the little ends up to help with not having sharp tips.

Levi loves playing with this. He loves sticking straws in and out of cups, and this is the same concept. Very easy to keep in a bag, and you can store the pipe cleaners in the tub when not being used!

Other Busy Bags:

* When making any of these busy bags, look around your house, kitchen, and craft room to see what you can re-use or re-purpose! Saves a ton of money and helps move things on to a new home! Your activity might look a little different than the original, but your 18m toddler won't know the difference, right? As always, feel free to share ideas in the comments below!

Busy Bag #1: Chalkboard & Chalk

Last week over on my facebook page, I mentioned that I would start experimenting with making age appropriate "busy bags" for my little boy, age 18m. I successfully made 8 or 10 little activities for our recent family vacation (an 8hr. drive into the mountains to go camping), and I can say they are successful because my little man loved all of them! So I'm going to share them with all of you other moms & caretakers, because most of them use basic household supplies or inexpensive craft supplies!

The first one I will share was the easiest... a mini chalkboard & chalk. Simple, I know. If the child "accidentally" colors on the couch, carseat, floor, etc... chalk wipes right off!

Here are the supplies you need:
-  Small chalkboard (this double-sided one was $1.75 on sale at Hobby Lobby)... It counted as an "unfinished wood" piece, so it was 30% off the normal price of $2.49.
- Chalk (4 boxes of chalk, 12ct was another $1.49)
- Total Cost: $4 (I actually bought a second one for a friend's daughter, and split all that chalk between the two bags)

The concept of activity bags are to provide simple, inexpensive activities to keep little hands busy for 10-15 minutes, while also introducing various learning concepts (like colors, counting, matching, etc...). Put each activity in a bag (I used quart size ziplock bags with the slider top), then put all the activities into a tote or large bag. Only pull one out at a time, then put it back into it's bag and switch it out for another activity!

Stay tuned for more of the activities I put together! I will share links of various sites where I got ideas. Isn't the internet such a wonderful resource for moms?

Nursing Covers $9.95 Shipped & Baby Slings $11.95 Shipped!!!

If you are looking for a nursing cover or baby sling for yourself or as a gift for someone, here's a great deal this week:

At Udder Covers you can purchase any nursing cover or 10 sets of washable breast pads for $9.95 shipped using promo code "BREASTFED" at checkout. This will deduct $32 from your total, leaving you to only pay the $9.95 shipping. I have made my own and for friends, and materials alone cost $5-$6 fabric on sale, so this is a great deal because it takes no time at all! You don't even have to leave your house!

At SevenSlings you can purchase a baby sling for $11.95 shipped using the same promo code, "BREASTFED" at checkout, which will deduct $39 from your total (so you can choose to get the gift set with baby leg warmers if you want, which would only be $5 more). They also offer a $3.50 "Size Exchange Insurance" that would cover you shipping it back to get a different size if you needed within two weeks.

Both of these sites will let you use the promo code more than once, you just have to close your browser and re-open the page! Have fun!

Baby Genius: $25 for 5 DVD's & 5 CD's

Baby-genius
Today Groupon* is offering a set of Baby Genius Sing-A-Long DVD's and CD's for $25. This is 5 DVD's, with their accompanying CD's, and includes shipping. That's only $2.50 an item! My son doesn't watch much TV, but there have been some days that a 20 minute baby video is what helps keep me sane! :-) This would make a great gift for someone, even if you split them up into 5 separate gifts for 5 different people. Or like me, you could definitely use them at home (Levi love to dance to music!).

*Groupon is a nationwide daily deals site that offers big discounts to restaurants, hotels, apparel, entertainment, etc... And like many other deal sites, they offer referral credit if you pass a deal on and a friend buys it. So the links above are my referral link. It's a perk to passing on deals, but most of all I want to help y'all get some great bargains, so feel free to go directly to the groupon website if you feel umcomfortable with that, choose Dallas as the city, and purchase the deal!
