Mr. Clean Magic Erasers: $.25 at Home Depot (plus my review)

Home Depot sells the single count Mr. Clean Magic Erasers for $1. I found them at mine at the front of the store on a display, not back in the cleaning aisle. If you have the $.75/1 coupon from the P&G Organize in Style coupon booklet, that would make them only $.25. (Sorry, I tried getting the link for people to sign-up for the booklet, but it's not letting me since I already signed on and I don't have time to mess with it right now, so if you know the link, post it in a comment below!)

I have been skeptical about these, to be honest. They've been around for awhile. And I figured, what could they do that bleach or Windex or whatever can't do? So I figured for $.25 I would give it a try. We rent our house (and love it), and the kitchen counters are a white speckled laminate from the 60's and absorb EVERYTHING. I bleach my counters every week to remove basic food stains. But some refuse to go away, like these two rings from mixing some t-shirt dye earlier this summer:
I have let these two rings SOAK in bleach, but to no avail. So I got out my new Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, ran it under water, squeezed it out, and wiped across these two rings. They were gone:
I'm not kidding. I literally just swiped back and forth across them a couple times. They are so gone that I had a hard time finding where to take the picture! I wiped away some other spots that have been on our countertops for a LONG time, and stood back amazed.

So I'm convinced. They really are magic. And even if you don't have a coupon, $1 to try it out is completely worth it!

Five FREE Veggie Tale Songs Download

Five Super Silly Songs
Amazon is offering "Five Super Silly Songs" by Veggie Tales for FREE. The five songs are:
1. The Hairbrush Song
2. The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything
3. I Love My Lips
4. His Cheeseburger
5. Belly Button

I can be totally honest and say I enjoy these as much as the kiddos... as long as they aren't repeated over and over!

Thanks, For the Mommas!

$1.50/1 Colgate Sensitive Coupon: RESET!!!

So it appears the $1.50/1 Colgate Sensitive Pro-Relief has reset??? I printed two off my computer this morning, and this evening my computer let me print off two again! There are no size restrictions, so you can score FREE travel size toothpaste at Wal-Mart, Target, Walgreens, and I'm sure many other places. This would be a great time to set aside some items if you try to Save to Give.

There is a new printable coupon here from $2/1 Visine Product (any size). Supposedly at Wal-Mart & Target there are travel size Visine bottles for only $1.99, making these FREE!

You could also use this coupon this week at CVS for part of their $10 gas card promotion.

CVS: Tide & Visine for $.78 each!

Tonight I was brave. Armed with my coupon binder, I tried a new drugstore to do some coupon deals: CVS. With the hubby and Levi sitting out in the car, I was very thankful everything was in stock and I was able to do my transaction smoothly! Here's what I bought:

1 Box of Tide powder- $5.94, sale
2 Bottles of Visine- $4.59, sale B1G1 50%
1 Aussie Hairspray- $2.99, sale

So total was $5.44+tax for all seven items above! That's $.78 each item (about $.90 including our state tax)!

Saving to Give: Beyond my stockpile...

As I get back into the couponing swing of things, I am going to start intentionally picking up items to set aside to give. My husband (a youth pastor) took a group of teenagers to inner-city Philly in July, and I raided the stockpile to send toiletry items for the homeless they were planning on encountering. I have been building my stockpile this last year for our little family of three (almost four!), but I'm ready to start setting aside items to give. So once a month or so I will take a picture of my growing "saving to give" stockpile, and we can start challenging each other to give to others when we can!

Today I picked up a bottle of Men's Gillette bodywash (free) and a 3-pack of Ivory soap ($.09) at Giant Eagle. I also stopped in at Walgreens to pick up 3 Reach toothbrushes for free, I just had to pay tax. So it has begun!

I look forward to seeing this add up!

McDonalds: $.50 Ice Cream Cones

Right now you can get $.50 ice cream cones at McDonalds. This is a limited time offer, but right now I can't find anywhere that let's me know when it will plan on ending, so definitely check first! We had a fun "family night" this week, and it only cost $1.50 for all three of us to get a yummy treat! Of course, our toddler didn't eat the whole thing himself. Daddy helped!

Crayola 50ct. Markers: $3.33 at Toys 'R Us (through Saturday)

I posted earlier this week about the Crayola sale at Toys 'R Us this week, and wanted to give you the heads up on one more good deal there... The Crayola Washable 50ct. marker sets are priced at $9.99 (not sure if prices vary from store to store or not). So when paired with the Buy 1 Get 2 Free sale going on this week, you can get three packs of 50ct Crayola markers for $10, or $3.33 each. This sale ends Saturday, August 27th.

I seriously never used to shop at Toys 'R Us before, but they have had some good sales recently as I stock up for Christmas gifts! My sister-in-law has five daughters, and is expecting her first son at the beginning of December. So I have decided to give each of my nieces tubs filled with craft supplies for Christmas so help keep their little hands busy. Basic things like markers, glue sticks, tape, doodle paper, cards to decorate... And right now is the time to shop for those type of supplies!

Toys 'R Us & Babies 'R Us: ALL Clearance Clothing $5 or Less!!!

I was actually at Babies 'R Us last weekend, then stopped in at Toys 'R Us for Crayola markers this week, and both times found some great items on the clearance racks. Right now, ALL Clearance clothes & shoes are $5 or less. Even if the clearance tag says more, it rings up for $5. I got two pairs of shoes for my 19m old boy in the next size up (sandals & loafers), two pairs of Carters pajamas sets (one has glow-in-the-dark dinosaurs... who would have thought?), and a scuba swim shirt for next summer (the kind with the SPF45 in it?).

I also saw entire outfits for $5: polo, undershirt, and khaki's, or a button down, t-shirt, and shorts, etc... Those are not only a great price on an entire outfit, but would also make a good gift! The girls clothing was similar, but of course for girls... :-) I just don't have my daughter in my arms quite yet, so I was looking only at little boy things. There were literally racks and racks of clearance clothes, as well as several large displays of shoes for each gender.

Have fun shopping! These kind of clearance sales definitely help for specific items, and can be great to set aside for the next size up. But as always, no matter what the price, if you don't need it, don't buy it, because then you really are spending money, not saving it! :-)

Back in the Saddle: Giant Eagle Savings

I have a confession: I haven't clipped coupons since the beginning of July. Yep, it's the truth. This summer has been so hectic with pregnancy issues, raising an 18m old, traveling, my husband's work schedule... It's been a little crazy. I've stayed within our monthly grocery budget, but that's been because of traveling and also not stocking up. I also haven't been to Rite Aid or any other drug store in 8 weeks. And here I am trying to run a couponing & deals blog... :-)

So this morning my son and I watched "Finding Nemo" while I clipped coupons. Then we went to Giant Eagle, armed with clipped coupons! He got to eat a cookie while I shopped, thanks to Giant Eagle's Cookie Card program. I started back small, but yes, it did feel good! Giant Eagle sales end on Wednesday, so I kind of HAD to go! And remember, GE doubles coupons up to $.99. Here's what I got:

Transaction #1:
2 Always Pads (3/$8)
1 Always Pantiliners (3/$8)
- used GE e-offer $1/1 Always Pantiliner
- used GE e-offer $.50/1 Always pad

- used $1/1 Always pantiliners (from mailer)
- used $.50/1 Always pads (from August P&G coupon booklet)
Total: $2.50 +tax
Received $3 catalina, good on my next purchase

Transaction #2:
1 Yoplait yogurt 4-pack ($2.50)
1 Yoplait YoPlus 4-pack ($2.29)
1 Ken's Marinade (3/$5)
2 Ken's Salad Dressings (3/$5)
2 Bounty Napkins, 100 ct. (2/$3)
1 Dawn Dish Soap ($1.69)
- used $.50/1 Dawn product GE e-offer
- used $.25/1 Bounty Napkins GE e-offer
- used (2) $.25/1 Bounty Napkins (August P&G)
- used $.50/1 Dawn coupon (SS from this summer?)
- used $.50/1 YoPlus coupon (SS from this summer?)
- used $.50/1 Yoplait orginal coupon (SS from this summer?)
- used $1/2 Ken's salad dressings (SS from this summer?)
- used $1/1 Ken's marinade (SS from this summer?)
- used $3 OYNO from transaction #1
- used $.49 foodperks savings
Total: $6.61 (including tax)

Total Original Cost: $23.19 (including tax & sale prices)
Total Out-of-Pocket: $9.60
Total Savings: $13.59 (59%)

I will say the yogurt and napkins were above the price I've been aiming at this year, but we needed both, and it was still a good price. Just not amazing.

Busy Bag #5: Family Photo Magnets

When I saw this idea over at Engaging Toddler Activities, this was top on my list to make for my son. Both my husband's family and my family live long distance, so learning names & faces of relatives inbetween visits is important to us. Family Photo Magnets are a great way for Levi to play and learn family faces at the same time! Find the complete directions here.

Supplies I Used:
- Photos of family members
- Magnetic tape
- Clear contact paper or a laminator (since I don't have a laminator, I substituted clear contact paper that I already had on hand)
- Thin cardboard to make the photos more durable
Total Cost: Depends on what you already own
Time: 15 minutes or more, depending on how many relatives you're doing, and if your toddler is around to try and "help"

Thanks, Engaging Toddler Activities for this great idea!

Other Busy Bag Ideas:
#1: Chalkboard & Chalk
#2: Pipe Cleaners in a Bottle
#3: Colors & Shapes Magnets

#4: Counting & Colors with Pom-Poms

Busy Bag #4: Counting & Colors with Pom-Poms

Here is another easy, cheap, & fun busy bag:

Supplies:
- Various colored "pom-poms" (you can buy large ones so there is less choking hazard)
- a small container w/ lid (I used an extra snack container)
Total Cost: $1-$3 depending on what you already have!
Time: 2 minutes or less

Put 10 or so "pom-poms" in the container, then put the whole container in a quart-size plastic bag until ready to be taken out to play with.

The child can count the pom-poms as he/she puts them back in the container. Go over colors, counting, and even how to open/close a container with lid! Again, very simple. But fun! I got the idea of using pom-poms from "My Delicious Ambiguity", as website with lots of Busy Bag ideas, but changed it to a container instead of a bottle to adjust to my 18m old's abilities (it doesn't help mommy out very much if I have to be the one pulling the pop-poms back out for him to play with!)

Other Busy Bag Ideas:
#1: Chalkboard & Chalk
#2: Pipe Cleaners in a Bottle
#3: Colors & Shapes Magnets

FREE SAMPLE: Downy "Unstopables"

Head over to Facebook to grab a free sample of the new Downy "Unstopables"
Available to the first 2,000,000.

Toys R' Us: B1G2 Free ALL Crayola Markers & Crayons (through Aug. 27)

If you have kiddos around the house who love to color, draw, and create works of art, this would be a great sale to stock up on markers & crayons! Through Saturday, August 27th, buy 1 Crayola or Marker item and get 2 FREE (of equal or lesser value). I went this morning and bought three packs of those cute Crayola "Pipsqueak" Markers to put back as Christmas presents. They were $4.99, so it came out to $1.66 per pack of Pipsqueaks. Target has the same pack for $3.79. So this is a really good sale. And it was tough choosing between the fat ones, skinny ones, and the ones with fancy tips that do different designs!

I didn't know until this summer how Toys 'R Us actually runs some pretty good weekly sales! I always thought of them as high-priced and I never really even shopped there.

REMINDER: Lands'End

Today is the last day to take advantage of 20% off of everything at Landsend (including clearance items), along with Free Shipping (no minimum order). I love the quality of Landsend and have ordered from them many times. Just use promo code "HAPPY" and pin "2598" when checking out! Don't forget you can always make returns to your local Sears and skip the return shipping charge!

Let the rest of us know if you find a really good deal on something!

Book Review: "Shadows On The Sand"

Shadows on the Sand: A Seaside Mystery
Book Title: Shadows on the Sand
Author: Gayle Roper
My Rating: 4 Stars

After reading Shadows on the Sand, I would definitely give it a 4 Star. I'm going to start getting stricter about my rankings because I can't just keep giving everything 5 stars because I liked the book! So 5 stars would be a "I would definitely read this again" (and I do have books I read over and over...), but this one would only get 4 stars, not because it wasn't exciting, but because it's a mystery and I rarely read mysteries twice. :-)

Shadows on the Sand takes place in a small, touristy, seaside town. Carrie is a young woman who runs a cafe/bakery with her sister. She has many "regulars" that come through the cafe, and one of the men in particular has caught her eye, but he doesn't seem to ever notice her since he's still grieving the loss of his wife and children from 3 years before. I was hesitant that maybe the book would be sappy and too romance-involved, but was pleasantly surprised that the other strange things that start happening in town (the murder of a young man, disappearance of a teenage girl, etc...) carried the main stage, while the relationship building was woven throughout. The book took many twists and turns, and I wasn't quite sure how it was all going to pan out until the end. So yes, I would recommend this book to a friend!

Please rank my review below (and you'll be entered to possibly win a copy of this book):

*I received a copy of this book, courtesy of Waterbrook Multnomah's "Blogging For Books" program, in exchange for my honest review.

A Work-In-Progress: "Baby Sister's Room"

Over the weekend I got to spend concentrated time on sewing for "Sweet Pea's Room". Our house has been in many stages of transition over the last few months as we prepare for the birth of our daughter in November. Our little man, Levi (19m) has moved into his new "big boy" room...
He is having a lot of fun driving his cars, sitting on the couch reading books with mommy, and dancing to children's Bible songs, Rascal Flatts, or Frank Sinatra (yep, we listen to a variety!). His room is still in progress. I need to finish the curtains (to replace the blankets) and my hubby is making shelves for above each window. Levi also likes to check on the progress in Baby Sister's new room (his old room)...
This nursery just fits our glider (a gift from when our son was born), along with the crib & beautiful dresser/changing table we bought off Craigslist. My husband painted over the previously brown walls (from the cowboy themed nursery) with a calming lavender. I have gotten to sew a white ruffled crib skirt, and a really fun crib bumper (my husband helped me pick out the fabric!) Other additions have been a few teddy bears from Levi's collection of stuffed animals, a soft purple blanket on clearance at a baby store, and a girly rug from Target.
I'm still in process with the baby quilt, and will also be making the curtains when my talented mom comes up to visit in a few weeks (she has WAY more experience with curtains!). So in about 12 more weeks, there will be a little girl sleeping in this little crib garden! Her name is still being decided, but in the meantime I just call her our lil' Sweet Pea. :-)

Groupon: $15 for $30 at Flirty Aprons

One of today's Groupons is $15 for $30 to spend at Flirty Aprons. Most of the aprons are under $30, and when I checked on shipping it was something like $4.83 (random number, huh?). Not only would this be a fun item to wear around my own kitchen (I am a VERY messy cook), but this would also make a sweet gift for a bridal shower!

Aren't these aprons adorable?

FREE $10 Rue La La Credit (for new members)

Rue La La is again offering a $10 credit to new members when you sign up here (offer expires August 23rd). Rue La La is another online deals site, usually for name brand things, but sometimes there have been more "normal" things like bamboo kitchenware, Melissa & Doug toys, etc... and then this credit is GREAT to have! So I recommend going ahead and signing up so you get the $10 credit, then waiting for a deal that is something you would love! Usually these credits can be applied towards shipping, so it can make an item pretty inexpensive.

* This is my referral link, when a referral makes their first purchase, I do get some credit. But being referred is the only way to get the $10 credit, so it's a win-win for everyone!

Free Sample: Nescafe Taster's Choice (6pk)

Head over to Facebook and "like" Nescafe USA. You can sign-up to get a FREE SAMPLE of their Taster's Choice single-serve instant coffee... this is one of my favorite samples to sign up for, because you get to try All 6 Flavors!!! This has been a good alternative to my regular coffee during pregnancy because the caffeine content is so much lower (around 70mg for the regular flavors and only 35mg for the flavored-flavors).

This sample also allows two per household, so make sure you sign your husband or someone else up!

Staples $.50 Ream of All-Purpose Paper (8/14-8/20)

If you need some cheap printer paper for coupons, kids doodling, etc... Swing by your local Staples because they have a great deal on paper: Hammermill CopyPlus paper is $.50 after rebate... I really don't mind Staples Easy Rebates, because you can fill out the rebate online! No hassle with having to remember to send it in the mail... And every time I've done one of their rebates, the check was waiting for me in my mailbox within 2-3 weeks. The other part about this deal I like... Each customer is eligible for TWO rebates on the paper, so you can get two reams of paper for $1. Now that's a little more worth me dragging my pregnant body and toddler through another store!

Other deals I snagged at Staples:
- 2ct. Sharpie Markers: $.25 (limit 2)
- One subject notebooks: $.01 (limit 6, with a $5 purchase)

I bought one ream for myself (coupons, of course!) and another ream for my 5 nieces for Christmas! I'm making them "craft" buckets, filled with doodle paper, colorful scrapbooks paper, glue sticks, new markers, blank cards, etc... And what better time to shop for this stuff than during Back to School Sales?

All new members get 80 Swagbucks to start off with, if you make sure to use Swag Code "AUGUSTBONUS" when signing up! (through August 31st, otherwise you just get 30 Swagbucks)

Thanks, Passionate Penny Pincher!

Swagbucks: Sign Up and Get 80 Free Swagbucks!!!

If you've been stalling on signing up, now is your time... Through August 31st, all new members get 30 Swagbucks for signing up, plus another 50 Swagbucks, a grand total of 80 Swagbucks! Swagbucks is completely free to use, and you get to redeem for giftcards (my favorite are the $5 Amazon cards for only 450 Swagbucks). So here's what you do:

- Sign-up here (my referral link, since you get extra swagbucks when friends sign up)
- Make sure to type "AUGUSTBONUS" (case sensitive) in the Swag Code box at the bottom of the sign-up screen... if you don't do this, you can't go back and claim them, so make sure to type it in there!
- Start searching! (you are randomly awarded swagbucks for internet searches)

Other ways to earn Swagbucks:
- Invite friends to join
- "Like" Swagbucks on Facebook for daily Swagcodes to redeem
- Take the daily poll
- Print & use coupons from Swagbucks (same coupons as coupons.com)
- Take Surveys
- Do searches on MegaSwagbucks Fridays
- and more... you'll catch on quick!

My little family and I recently went camping in the mountains of NY, and we got to use our brand new tent we ordered from Amazon... We paid for more than half of it with Amazon cards I earned through Swagbucks! As you can see, our little boy at 18m is already wanting to grow up to be just like daddy! :-)
