Noticed the Lull in Posts/Deals?

Friends and other Frugal Deal Finders, just wanted to give y'all a quick update around my house... If you've noticed I haven't been posting much, it's not because I'm hogging all the deals for myself, or because I forgot about this blog... My little Levi, usually all smiles, has stayed sick again for the last 8 days. He is cranky, fussy, and wants to constantly be in Mommy's lap. And while being on the laptop finding great deals would be way more fun sometimes, I have to love on him and comfort him as he is growing in molars, battling a cold, and possibly fighting another set of ear infections.

So if you stop by to check on coupons/deals, know I miss y'all, and we appreciate the prayers! I will post stuff when I can, and look forward to being back on here regularly!

Book Review: What Am I Waiting For?

What Are You Waiting For?: The One Thing No One Ever Tells You About Sex
In her book, "What Are You Waiting For?: The One Thing No One Ever Tells You About Sex", author Dannah Gresh handles the topic of sex in a refreshing way, very different from other mainstream sexual purity books written for teens in recent years. Dannah Gresh starts out by laying the groundwork of God's design of man/woman, with a biblical perspective of our sexuality, that leaves the female reader feeling affirmed in how God created her to be. Following that introduction, she starts expanding that biblical view in the context of today's culture. Instead of answering questions specifically with "do's & do not's" (actions), she answers it with thoughts & attitudes (the heart), pointing the reader back to the Bible and the heart of God again and again.

The book tackles topics like masturbation, pornography, lesbianism, how far it too far, etc... with honesty and humility, while quickly taking readers right to the heart of it all: "Is this pleasing to God? Is this in line with God's incredible plan for me to experience intimacy with my future husband?" I just about laughed in the chapter that was titled "Where is the line?" Because she said we're asking the wrong question... by asking that question, we're really asking, "How much can I get away with?" So true, so true. :-) Anyway, the book from the first page to the last page carries the message of a God who intends for an intimate relationship between husband and wife, man and woman being created in His image, for an intimate relationship with Him, and most importantly, that as humans we fall, but He is a God of redemption, Who is calling us back to Him, no matter what our stories in the past might be.

I already know several young women I'd like to pass this book on to. This is a message of hope: hope that sexual activity is worth waiting for, hope for healing from past sexual experiences, and hope for an personal relationship with a God who cares so much for His daughters!

Read and rank my review right here: (thanks... bloggers can earn prizes depending on their rankings!)

Grocery Shopping Trip...

Giant Eagle Weekly Deals and Coupon Matchups
I would take a picture, but I already put everything away in the fridge... Today was a GREAT shopping trip at Giant Eagle to re-stock up on basics. And my little Levi patiently shopped with me, despite the fact that I forgot his "Cookie Card" which lets a child pick a cookie at the bakery to eat while mommy shops (the card costs $1 and is good for the entire year).

Anyway, here's a recap of today's shopping trip, matching coupons with weekly sales at Giant Eagle:
- 3 bottles of Coffee-Mate flavored creamer (FREE after coupons doubled from here)
- 4 of Yoplait Kids yogurt 4-packs ($.67 each 4-pack after coupons from here)
- 4 YoPlus yogurt 4-packs ($.67 each 4-pack after coupons from here)
- 1 individual Yoplait yogurt (FREE after coupon from here)
- 2 tubes of Crest toothpaste (FREE after coupons in SS coupon booklet)
- 4 cans of Muir Glen Organic tomato sauce ($.19 after coupons from here)
- 5 oranges (5/$1)
- 1 gallon of milk ($1.98)

Shopping Total (after coupons): $8.19

Yay! When I got started on this couponing journey, I learned a lot (and I'm still learning!) and was encouraged when people posted about successful shopping trips, because it showed me first of all where coupons could be printed to match sales, and that some things that were "expensive" before (like yogurt) can actually be easily affordable. So while not every shopping trip are as amazing as today's, it inspires me to keep on meal planning and watching the weekly ads to match up my coupons to make a fantastic deal!

$20 for $50 to use on Toys, Baby Blankets, and More...

Today an online daily deal site, called Eversave, is offering TWO interesting deals.

First, if you are new to Eversave*, they are offering a $5 credit to all new members. This offer is only valid today and tomorrow (2/16-2/17). I'd recommend going ahead and signing up to get the credit, even if you're not interested in purchasing anything today. You can always use it later. I've done this at several deal sites, and it definitely came in handy later!

The second deal is the actual daily deal: $25 for $50 to use at ShopZoolu (kids clothing, baby blankets, toys, etc...). If you're a new member, your $5 credit would make it $20. I went to ShopZoolu to check out their products, and like a lot of sites, some are pricey, some are normal... My favorites are the Melissa & Doug Toys (like the wooden blocks, $19.99) and the beautiful Bebe au Lait nursing covers ($35). They also sell bottles, sippy cups, the belly bandit, and more...

Basically, with this "save", you could get things 50% off!!!

* Eversave is a daily deals site that offers new deals every day. They also offer referral credit when you share Eversave with friends, so the above link is my referral link. I appreciate honesty & integrity in other bloggers, especially when they may be getting some credit for posting deals, so I strive to do the same. And I really appreciate referral credit, since it helps comp for some of the time I spend blogging to share deals! As always, you can go directly to www.eversave.com to sign up if you would rather not be a referral.

Amazon 10 for 10
Viewpoints offers people the opportunity to write reviews on household products they already own, and in return, earn rewards. They are once again offering their popular "10 for $10", meaning you write 10 qualifying reviews (basically, over 900 characters and in certain categories), and they will email you a $10 Amazon e-card within 30 days of the program ending. I have done several of these, and between Viewpoints and Swagbucks, I have been able to make multiple baby purchases (like diapers & wipes), as well as help pay for part of my most recent Amazon purchase... our new tent!

So register or sign-in to Viewpoints, and start writing reviews!

FREE Nescafe Sample Pack...

Nescafé USA
If you haven't requested the Nescafe Taster's Choice Sample pack yet, you definitely should. Just "like" them on Facebook, fill out your address, and wha-lah! And you can request two per household, so sign up your husband, wife, mom, dad... You get 6 "sticks" of their 6 different coffee flavors. When I got mine in the mail, I stashed them away for our camping trips this summer. You just pour the stick pack into 6 ounces of hot water, and you have coffee on-the-go!

I love getting all these freebies in the mail. Makes checking the mail so much more interesting!

My Favorite Lullaby CD: Heaven Sent by Tia Ciferno

Heaven Sent-Lullabies for Wide Eyes

My all-time favorite lullaby cd is "Heaven Sent" by Tia Ciferno. I listened to this while pregnant, while holding my newborn son, and now I sooth his little forehead while humming the tunes in the few precious moments he holds still long enough to snuggle. The songs are absolutely precious about how babies are a blessing from the Lord, and as mommies we get to teach our children about Jesus. I have given away many of these to new moms. Actually, one of our local hospitals gives a copy of the cd to every new mom when she leaves. "Heaven Sent" by Tia Ciferno is available for MP3 download on Amazon for $8.99, or you can purchase the cd for $12 and read a little more about the songs & the heart behind them here.

Groupon: $35 for $100 at Picaboo!!!

Picaboo
One of the Groupon deals today is you pay $35 for a $100 voucher to use at Picaboo, and online website where you can create customized photo books, calendars, and cards. This voucher will cover the cost of two large custom hardbacks ($39.99 each), plus their shipping ($8.99 each). The voucher can be applies towards tax & shipping, but not combined with other deals. Have fun!

Summer here we come... Our New Tent!!!

Coleman Red Canyon 17-Foot by 10-Foot 8-Person Modified Dome Tent
I grew up camping with my family a lot, and have so many fun memories. My husband and I have camped several times together, and after last summer, we decided it was time to upgrade our tent. With the addition of our little Levi, our 7'x7'x54" 2-person tent was getting a bit tight. Several cousins and friends recommended looking for tents in January/February, because many online places have fantastic sales during the "off-season" (and I never intend to camp during the winter, that's for sure!).

So we decided what our budget would be for a new tent, made a list of features we would need/like, and started looking. After several weeks of researching a variety of tents, the prices, reviews, etc... We finally decided on a tent, and let me tell you, I can't wait for summer to come!!! We decided on the Coleman Red Canyon 10'x17' 8-Person Modified Dome Tent. This tent has a 4.5 star rating (out of 5) out of 94 reviews, is tall enough for my 6'1" husband to stand up in, and has room dividers so I can have some privacy as our Levi gets older, or when we have other guests camping with us.

To make this purchase even better, I have been saving up Amazon giftcards I earned through Swagbucks*, and we were able to use those to help pay for some of the tent! I also found a 2-burner propane stove at Target on clearance a little while back ($12.48 instead of $50), as well as a small camping chair for Levi for $3. So now all we need is some warm weather to test out our new tent!

If you are considering getting a tent, and have set aside some money in your budget, now is definitely a great time to look for one!

* Swagbucks is an online search engine where you are randomly awarded fake money called "Swagbucks". You can also earn them for a variety of other things like doing surveys, reading their blog, printing coupons, taking polls, referring friends, etc... Then you redeem the "Swagbucks" for giftcards to a variety of places! The above link is my referral link, which is one of the ways you earn extra swagbucks. If you feel uncomfortable being a referral, just go directly to www.swagbucks.com!

Econobum Cloth Diapers: 2 Covers & 2 Prefolds for $10!!! (shipped!)

Buy 1 Get 1 Free Econobum Single Pack
For all the cloth diapering moms out there, here's a great sale at Cotton Babies... They currently have their Econobum cloth diaper kit (cover & prefold) on sale B1G1... They are $9.95 normally, so you basically get 2 covers & 2 prefolds for $9.95! And shipping is always FREE on CottonBabies, no matter the size of the order. So if you need a few extra covers/diapers, or want to try cloth diapering without spending a lot of money, this is a great way to do it!

I currently use these Econobum covers, and I would recommend them. I started cloth diapering almost a year ago with my little Levi, and I bought Thirsties covers based on the recommendations from friends. And I LOVE Thirsties covers. However, I was looking at getting a few extra covers to help fill the gap during stressful weeks when I wasn't getting the covers washed as frequently, so I tried an Econobum based on the price. It works perfect for that need. When they went on sale a few months ago, I bought a couple more. Econobum are "One-Size" diapers, meaning they have a series of snaps so that you can adjust the stride of the diaper cover and the waist to fit your baby from birth-potty training. Econobum are lighter weight than Thirsties and some of the other brands, but hold up very well. We've had no leaks or blow-outs, and minimal staining on the inside lining. Since they started making the colored edgings, this would cut down on leg-hole staining. Anyway, I would recommend them as spares, for church (they are thinner than other diaper covers), and to expand your cloth diaper collection by a few diapers! It's amazing you can get 2 covers and 2 prefolds for $10!!!

Last time these coupons were available, I was able to get bags of frozen organic veggies for $.33 a bag!

Favorite Banana Bread Recipe...

A few weeks ago I mentioned that my husband and I had been saving up to buy a deep freezer, and in December we finally got to purchase a freezer! One of the things I have enjoyed stashing away has been "quick" breads to pull out and enjoy later. It's takes the same amount of time to mix & bake a double batch of bread, and freeze one for later, while enjoying one immediately.

I'm also trying to make healthier choices in what my little family eats, and here is my absolutely favorite banana bread recipe!!! It comes from the Betty Crocker Cookbook app available for the iTouch, Smartphones, etc...

"Healthified" Banana Nut Bread
(makes 1 loaf, but recipe doubles well)

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup canola oil
2 egg whites
1 cup mashed banana (2 large)
1/4 cup skim milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup chopped pecans (optional)
OR 1 cup blueberries (optional)

Directions:
1. Heat oven to 350F. Grease bottom-only of 8x4 inch or 9x5 inch loaf pan with spray or shortening. In medium bowl, mix dry ingredients.
2. In large bowl, beat sugar, oil, egg whites, bananas, milk, and vanilla until well-blended. Stir in flour mixture until well blended. Stir in pecans or blueberries (my favorite). Spoon into pan.
3. Bake 8-inch loaf 55-62 minutes, 9-inch loaf 45-52 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 5 minutes; remove from pan to cooling rack.

The Betty Crocker Cookbook says that this recipe has "44% less fat, 50% more fiber, and 26% fewer calories than the original recipe". There are 140 calories per serving, but it doesn't say how many servings are in a loaf?

Dairy Queen: B1G1 Free Blizzard Coupon

Head over here to print a Dairy Queen B1G1 Blizzard coupon. Just type in your zip code and print. Enjoy!

Rite Aid: $.50 Gillette Deodorant & Finesse Hair Care Items!!!

Seriously, Rite Aid has me coming back again and again the last several weeks... And I used to NEVER shop at a drug store because the prices are so hiked up!  If you got the February P&G coupons in your newspaper a few weeks ago (1/30?), cut out the B1G1 Gillette deodorant coupon, and the B1G1 Old Spice Deodorant coupon. Here's a great deal to use them on:

- Use B1G1 coupon from P&G February coupon booklet
- Spend $4 +tax out-of-pocket  for 2 deodorants
- Get $3 +up reward when you buy 2 (and yes, I bought 2 Gillette & 2 Old Spice, and got 2 $3 +up rewards back)
Total Price: $.50 each after rewards

Finesse Hair Products: Sale 2/$6
- Buy 2, spend $6 out of pocket (or use +up rewards from previous transactions, like the one above)
- Get back $5 +up rewards
Total Price: $.50 Each after rewards

Want to lower your savings a little more? Watch Rite Aid Video Values and earn TWO $1 off your next purchase coupons (and yep, I used both on buying the deodorants above, in the same transaction). Just go to Video Values, login (or sign-up), and click on the "Exclusive Rite Aid Offers" near the bottom of the selections.

Deal Idea #1:
- Buy the 4 deodorants listed above, use the 2 $1off coupons, spend $6 out-of pocket, get back $6 in +up rewards.
- Then buy 2 Finesse items, use the $6 up rewards, get back $5 in +up rewards.

Deal Idea #2:
- Buy 2 hair care items, use 2 $1 off coupons mentioned above, spend $4 out-of-pocket, get back $5 in rewards.

Either way, it's a win-win!!!

The Dragon & the Turtle: Go On Safari

The Dragon and the Turtle Go on Safari
The opening scene of "The Dragon & the Turtle Go on Safari" place these two best friends around a campfire, roasting marshmallows and eating baked bugs (a perfect silly food kids would love). These two little campers are on a great adventure: spending the WHOLE night at the base of Mount Sillmanborrow! This book captures the excitement, courage, and imagination that children everywhere experience when they get to sleep in a tent in the great outdoors (even if it's only 10 ft. from the back door...).

I would recommend this book for ages 5+, since the book uses different scenarios to teach the readers about kindness, respect, copmassion, and courage. As the mother of a 1 yr. old, this book has way too much text on every page to keep my son occupied (if I was reading the real storyline, so we'll just pretend and look at the pictures). The turtle and the dragon also playfully use "adventurer" talk, aka British English, which could be confusing to young readers, but playful and fun to older children. Overall, this was a cute and entertaining book, that also provides opportunities for the parent to talk about important character qualities with their child.
